Merica (Melaleuca fructuseri)
Indonesia Standard Quality Grade

ORIGIN: Native to South and Southeast Asia, merica is widely cultivated in Indonesia, particularly in regions with warm, humid climates, sufficient rainfall, and fertile soils.

PLANTING: Thrives in warm tropical climates with temperatures around 20–30°C, high humidity, sufficient rainfall, and fertile, loose, well-drained soil. It is commonly propagated from healthy stem cuttings and planted near supporting trees or poles to allow the climbing vines to grow properly.

HARVESTING:

  • Timing: Harvested when the fruits reach the desired maturity, generally around 2–3 years after planting, with subsequent harvests possible throughout the productive period.
  • Method: Fruit spikes are carefully harvested by hand. Green fruits are commonly collected for black pepper processing, while fully mature fruits are harvested for white pepper production. The harvested fruits are then cleaned, sorted, and processed according to the intended product specification.
