Description

Kelabet (Trigonella foenum-graecum L)
Indonesia Standard Quality Grade

ORIGIN: Native to the Mediterranean region, Western Asia, and Southern Europe, kelabet is now widely cultivated in Asia, Africa, and other regions with suitable climates. In Indonesia, it can be cultivated in areas with sufficient sunlight, moderate temperatures, and fertile, well-drained soils.

PLANTING: Thrives in warm to moderate climates with temperatures around 15–30°C, sufficient sunlight, moderate rainfall, and fertile, loose, well-drained soil. It is commonly propagated from healthy seeds planted directly into prepared soil at shallow depths, with adequate spacing and moisture maintained during the early growth period.

HARVESTING:

  • Timing: Harvested when the plants reach maturity and the seed pods turn yellowish-brown and become dry, generally around 3–5 months after planting, depending on variety and growing conditions.
  • Method: Mature plants are cut or uprooted carefully and dried until the pods are sufficiently dry. The pods are then threshed to separate the seeds, which are cleaned, sorted, and dried according to the intended product specification.
